Maybe Greed Isn’t So Good

So right after writing about how greed and capitalism may be good I sat down and watched Sicko, Michael Moore’s new documentary about the health care system in the US. It turns out greed may have ruined the US health care and pharmaceutical industry so maybe it’s not so good. Or maybe it’s only good when applied to things consumers actually have a choice about instead of having to pay $60000 to get fingers put back on. The saddest part is that while socialist health care probably would work well it’s such a huge uphill battle in America since the health care and pharmaceutical companies are so well entrenched and like your money so much.

Sometimes I think perhaps lobbyists are the problem.

Just a thought. (OMG social commentary from me! I’ll try to keep it to a minimum as I hate politics but I am voting Colbert)

Is Greed And Capitalism Good?

Perusing YouTube I just ran across this ABC News report on greed and capitalism and how it may just be a good and positive thing that helps grow countries. It’s also what makes America great.

Here’s the first part of it you can find the rest at YouTube.

I Think I Found My Purpose in Life

I’ve been reading StevePavilina.com recently and came across a post I had previously read about figuring out your purpose in life, but when I read it before I didn’t proceed to participate in the exercise.

Today when I ran across it again though I figured I’d go for it and this is what I came up with.

“To learn, love and live with a passion. To be free to pursue these passions wholeheartedly as they arise. To provide and care for for my friends and family and help them develop their potentials. To give back to the world through sharing what I’ve learned.”

That’s what I’ve found is my purpose in life and thus I’m trying to keep it in mind and pursue it, the main element is to first achieve the freedom needed to pursue my passions as I tend to become extremely obsessed with one topic for about 4-6 months at a time and during this time I voraciously consume information related to that topic. Previously I haven’t been able to focus completely on these things as work or school has gotten in the way, going forward I intend to develop that freedom.

Anyway I found it very interesting and helpful to me and I hope it can help others. If you do the exercise I’d love to see what others came up with in the comments. Every should and will have a different purpose in life that really means something to you.
